Glatz's Black Angus Genetics –
a proven first choice for 'grass finishing heavyweight'

Lion Rural based at Mt. Gambier, have fast become one of the industry heavyweights for grass fattening southern bred beef cattle. From December 2010 through until February 2011 Lion Rural sourced 4500 of the best weaner steers available, predominately from Naracoorte, Mt. Gambier and Hamilton weaner sales.

Lion Rural's, Grant Jackson sourced the cattle specifically to fit a heavy grass fed domestic processor grid with Cargills at Wagga, NSW. The majority of weaners purchased were Angus and Angus cross cattle due to their suitability to the market and availability in larger consignments.

Three hundred and forty of these steers were Glatz's Black Angus sired cattle bred in the South East of SA. Grant described the draft of Glatz's bred calves representing five vendors as being specialist cattle for the Lion Rural enterprise. "All Glatz's bred calves were inducted during the latter part of the 2010-2011 weaner season and were most definitely amongst the earliest consignments to combine the target live weight range and P8 fat specifications ideal for the Cargills grid," Grant said.
"The HSCW dressing percentage of these cattle was a whole 1% higher than the 56.1% average over the 4500 cattle slaughtered. Our records also demonstrate that the disposition and workability of the Glatz's bred cattle kept their incidence of dark cutting to a minimum.
"With the 2011-2012 calf selling season underway, Lion Rural will make every effort to procure as many Glatz's Black Angus bred cattle as possible through weaner sales, Auctions Plus and on farm transactions."

It is with testimonials of such industry relevance that cement Glatz's Black Angus as a preferred supplier of Angus seedstock to the commercial beef sector of Southern Australia.
